Follow these steps to enter the WNY Turing Challenge. Required: project form and video demo. Optional: poster PDF for the Poster Showcase and Poster Competition. All materials go through the online submission portal.

Submission deadline: May 10, 2026

Submit through the portal by the end of the day unless the posted instructions say otherwise. Late submissions cannot be accepted.

Submission steps

Form your team

Participate individually or as a team of up to 3 students, with up to 1 mentor per team. Mentors may be school teachers, parents, or other adults. All student participants must be middle or high school students in Western New York.

Choose one category

Pick the single category that best fits your project: Computing Research; Creative Computing & Digital Arts; Software, Apps & Games; Cybersecurity; IoT, Robotics & Physical Computing; or AI & Intelligent Systems.

Prepare required materials

Complete the project form and record a project video demo (up to 3 minutes). The video should demonstrate your project and explain your work.

Optional: poster PDF

A poster PDF is optional. Submit one only if you want to be considered for the Poster Showcase and Poster Competition. Format: digital poster, 36×48 inches, PDF.

Submit online

Submit through the portal by May 10, 2026. You will receive confirmation by email when your materials are received.

Video requirements

  • Required with the online project form (both are due by the submission deadline)
  • Duration: up to 3 minutes
  • Format: MP4 or YouTube / Google Drive link
  • Resolution: 720p minimum
  • Must include a live demo of the project
  • Explain technology used and challenges faced
  • All team members should appear or be credited

Poster requirements

Optional — only if you want to be considered for the Poster Showcase and Poster Competition.

  • Size: 36 × 48 inches (portrait or landscape)
  • Format: PDF file
  • Include: project title, team members, school
  • Include: problem statement & approach
  • Include: results, screenshots, or diagrams
  • Include: key takeaways and future work

Important notes

  • Each individual or team submits one project in one category (see categories on the home page).
  • All work must be original and created by the submitting student(s).
  • Poster decisions are emailed by May 17, 2026. Category awards are announced at the final event on May 23, 2026 (9:30 AM–2:00 PM) at Davis Hall, University at Buffalo, First floor — student demos, selected posters, awards, and innovation expo.
  • Submissions are final — please review everything before submitting.
